On Vacation … Sweet!

Take a vacation, folks. Yep, I’m on vacation after NOT writing, posting, doing pretty much anything for the blog for a couple months due to a crazy, crazy life. Yeah, I’m not trying to make excuses, and I’m not trying to prove to you that I deserve a vacation. What I am doing is asking you to consider taking some time to unwind, calm down, focus on your passions, evaluate, develop a plan, etc. ”Fail to plan, plan to fail,” right?

Well, this vacation has been restful and sweet. I look forward to getting back to blogging seriously over the next couple months and continuing to make 2010 “The Best Year of My Life.”

With all that said, enjoy a vacation, schedule a trip to relax, spend time with the fam, enjoy your spouse/relationship, take some alone time and think/meditate on what you’d love to do/accomplish.

Featured Friday Interview with author and speaker, Rob Coats, the “Connectionaire”

Ok, bare with me on this recording. For the first five minutes we had some technical difficulties because my internet died for 3 minutes. So, just go ahead and move to about the 5:30 mark in the recording and you’ll be at the start of the interview.

Anyway, what a great interview! Rob Coats is such an amazing individual. Between his success as a student, small business owner and now a public speaker/mentor/author, this is a very accomplished man at the young age of 26 (27 in a couple days, April 2nd — say happy b-day when you get a chance!). In the interview, Rob touches on important aspects of success as a person as well as success as a business owner.

Why Believe?

This more of a question for all of you because I’m very interested in your answers. And I’m seriously asking this, Why Believe? Why do we believe in anything, what’s the point? In your opinion, why is it important or not important to believe? Why believe in ourselves, a god, in others, in purposes and visions, and many other things we place belief in?

I’ve got some thoughts of my own, but I’m going to hold them back. I had a great conversation with some guys today about belief. I could tell many of them believed what I was saying about belief, that we can achieve whatever we set our minds to, but we have to believe it first. BUT, some of them tuned me out. So, I ask you, “Why Believe?” Let’s hear it.

What Dreams Have You Fulfilled Lately?

I was thinking today how important it is to fulfill some of your dreams.

Do you dream of taking a cool vacation or seeing those mountains you’ve only envisioned in your thoughts or seen in pictures?
Do you plan to plan to plan but would rather plan to take action?
Do you think you’ll never get to fulfill your dreams?
Have you written your dreams down? Do you look at them often or think about them on a regular basis?

These are all important questions when you think about fulfilling dreams. I keep using this example, but it’s crucial to use it to understand our ability and potential. How did a man land and walk on the moon if not for some loon who thought it was possible? Become a dreamer and shoot for the stars! It’s certainly better to think and dream about your potential than to waste time being negative about your current state of affairs.

You’re an amazing miracle of a creature! You need to know that you can do whatever it is you put your mind to! Go ahead, put that dream trip on your calendar and start planning for it. Go ahead, start dreaming big and stop being negative and watch your life change.

We’ve had the very fortunate luck to have met Mr. Clinton Brown while in Kansas City recently. He’s a great guy, savvy businessman/entrepreneur and knows what he’s talking about when it comes to network marketing. We haven’t done much business/sales training at the blog yet, so I think this will open up the blog to many more readers as Clinton will be bringing his practical advice for growing your network marketing, MLM or sales business to his blog posts. We will be featuring Clinton on the blog fairly regularly, so watch out for more great content from his “So Let’s Get Practical” column.

Clinton and I enjoy the same network marketing company and have discussed many of the issues he will bring up in his posts. These are all practical applications to help you build a successful business straight from a top producer in network marketing, straight from the front lines of the war between disbelief and success! Are you holding yourself back?

Why don’t you tell more people about what you do?

Why don’t you ask more people to take a look at your business?

Why don’t you ask them if they are looking for an opportunity?

Have you ever really stopped and tried to answer those questions? I bet without much pause your answers would be:

“They may not be interested.”
“I don’t want to come across pushy.”
“I know it isn’t for everyone.”
“No one likes to be accosted.”
“I don’t want to scare them.”

YOU ARE WRONG!

YOU ARE ASSUMING!

What if someone had those objections before they showed you? Would your life be different?

The above concerns can be better stated:

“I don’t think this is interesting enough to show you.”
“My product or service is of such low value that I will be wasting your time just opening my mouth.”
“I don’t think it is for you.”
“I can’t shut up once I get going and I know I am going to annoy you.”
“I am scared.”

I finally realized, “You know…I don’t like people (aside from my beautiful wife) making decisions for me. I am reasonably intelligent and I can decide how to spend my time and money. So what right do I have pre-deciding for someone if my products or services are right for them?” The top producer in my company was a miserable failure at his previous 11 ventures. So, if the 12th person showing him an opportunity had decided not to because he had a bad track record, tens of thousands of people would have very different lives.

So let’s get practical. Here is what I say and it works like a charm.

“Hey…have you ever heard of (company or product name)?”

“It is so cool. You have to check it out.”

“I would love for you to go to my website (or catalog), take a look at it and give me your opinion.”

{After they take a look and give their opinion}

“So…pretty cool huh?”

“Which one of these products or services makes sense for you?”

If they point one out, help them purchase it

-or-

If they say “none or not right now” say,

“Now that you know more about our company who do you know who might find this information interesting?”

“Can you introduce me to them?”

You are probably holding yourself back from higher volume sales because you are deciding it isn’t right for someone before you even give them the opportunity to decide for themselves.

Show them. Let them decide!
